Autism centered design
Autism-centered design recognizes that thoughtful environments can ease anxiety, support independence, and foster a genuine sense of belonging. This approach prioritizes sensory comfort, spatial predictability, and opportunities for both connection and retreat. Projects like the dormitory renovation at an accredited special education school in Massachusetts and the research-based thesis on residential autism housing demonstrate how design can respond meaningfully to the needs of neurodivergent individuals. Each space is shaped by a deep understanding of daily rhythms, sensory processing, and the importance of creating environments that allow people to thrive on their own terms.
This work is also personal - shaped by lived experience as a parent to a child with autism, and a belief that everyone deserves to feel at home in their space.
