Creating a new model of housing for adults with autism

This project began with a simple thought during visits to my mother-in-law’s senior living community: This could work for my son. What if the architecture designed to support aging adults – spaces built for belonging, inclusion, regulation, wellness, and independence – could be adapted for autistic adults who thrive with the same thoughtful structure? This thesis became a three-year journey to reimagine housing for a growing population for whom housing is often inaccessible. The result is a new model: one grounded in empathy, backed by research, and centered on creating places where autistic adults can feel at home, in every sense of the word.
